Robyn Fenty, better known as Rihanna, made her statement in the world when she was signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Music Label back in 2005. Now after 8 years of success in the music business, Rihanna teamed up with River Island to create a clothing line of her own, Rihanna for River Island.
River Island has been successful in fashion retail for over 60 years with 300 stores internationally, including Asia and the Middle East. Both being daring and innovative, Rihanna and River Island produced a collection of fashion forward looks. Throughout the collection are a combination of simple t-shirts, shorts, jackets, skirts, hats, bags, and jeans; including her infamous double jean look. Despite critics bashing the singers fashion debut at London fashion week earlier this year stating that it was “tiresome and underwhelming“, Rihanna’s first collection was a start to innovation, literally pushing fashion forward. Rihanna is due for another Rihanna for River Island collection this weekend, May 25th. Anticipation for this summer collection is over and with her mixy reviews from the first collection, the fashion world’s awaiting to see whats next for Rihanna.
The singer/designer explains her fash-inspiration for her high end summer 2013 line stating, in a short behind the scenes film on YouTube, that “I just wanted stuff that I wanted to wear because at the end of the day that’s what got me into designing”. Rihanna claims that when shopping she sees items on clothing racka that she feels could have been a little more her.
Collaboarting with designer Adam Selman, the collection consist of a combination of jumpsuits with floral and tie dye prints, oversized jackets, simple black and pink dresses, crop tops, and high waist skinny skirts. This summer collection may be the collection that will turn her bad critique from her first into some amazing critique for the summer. Rihanna for River Island will be sold in stores and online in two days!
