For my upcoming style exam, I studied Socialite Olivia Palermo. Palermo came to be known as a cast member on a reality television series, The City, a spin-off of MTV’s The Hills. She wanted to become an actress, however, for her duration on the television show she started out working in the Public Relations department for Diane Von Furstenberg and later the accessories department at Elle.
As the show picked up its second season on MTV, Palermo was given a bigger responsibility for Elle. First, I wanted to study Olivia’s style and her journey to becoming a fashionista. But after doing research, I’ve found out much more about the socialite, model and wife. She made a name for herself, not only in the fashion industry but in the journalism world as well. Here’s how:
- Interned at Quest, an American Lifestyle magazine
- Guest edited for http://www.piperlime.com
- Launched a personal website in 2011, http://www.oliviapalermo.com, consisting of blog articles about her travels and fashion pieces
- Reporting duties for http://www.elle.com
Having that keen eye for style is hard and not many can pull off everything, but Olivia, I believe, can. Having a background in the fashion journalism, I’m pretty sure Olivia knows much more then just putting a nice pair of skinny jeans and a sheer blouse together.
She also models, shoots for dozens of magazine spreads and has collaborated with some of the best including Chelsea 28 & BaubleBar. I think this collection, which already hit stores early last week on Sept.6, can be catered to fashionistas who love menswear and their style which can be incorporated with women’s wear and the fall color fabrics as well. “We loved mixing light, feminine elements such as ruffles and lace with leather and menswear-inspired tailored pieces,” said Palermo (noted on her website). With a 2016 Fall collection at Nordstrom, Olivia Palermo x Chelsea 28, ready to be merchandised, I think Olivia will continue on in the industry having a place of pure independence in the fashion world.
Take a look at some of the pieces from the OP x Chelsea 28 collection below and visit http://www.oliviapalermo.com for more information on the busy fashionable life of Ms. Palermo or should I say Mrs. Johannes Huebl.
